How can I manage VM placement in HA cluster?

I have HA cluster with 2 ESX Servers 3.0.1. Everything works ok but every time after a failover my VMs are automatically redistributed so that I have to move them back to the host they were run at. Are there any settings to assign the VMs to a specific host?

Answer: If you are using HA and DRS together, the failover will be combined with automatic load balancing. This means that some virtual machines can be moved to different hosts to avoid overload of the other hosts. However, you can choose to start some virtual machines on the same host or on different hosts by setting affinity/anti-affinity rules. You can read more in VMware Infrastructure 3 white paper “Resource Management with VMware DRS”.

Yes, you can add a new host with running VMs. Read more info in the VMware white paper (www.vmware.com/pdf/vmware_ha_wp.pdf)
