How do you Expand a VMFS Volume.

I expanded an HP Array and can grow the partition in Linux. But how do you grow the Vmware storage Volume. As far as I can see I'd have to delete it and recreate it.

Answer:

If you use a SAN/iSCSI you can expand VMFS partition through the VIC.

Rescan your Storage adapters and so you can see your new target.

After that open Storage section, right click on the VMFS partition you need to expand, select properties and then click Add extent button.

After completing the wizard your current VMFS volume will be expanded with all the data preserved.

But VMware certainly does not recommends this. it's better to create an extra vmfs volume and move the vm or start rolling out vm's to the new volume.
