Virtualization – Predicting Next Step

Stephen Hayward is talking in favor of David Marshall’s predictions on the future of virtualization. He also develops the idea of database virtualization.

Stephen is sure that database virtualization is the first objective, if we take cost reduction as a key factor. Databases remain a very costly and time-consuming area, which should drive virtualization experts’ attention. However, it still doesn’t, as Stephen thinks.

“…I wonder why more attention is not being focused on this area”, says Stephen. “Database virtualization reduces the cost of maintaining dozens of custom data marts, allows movement of older databases to commodity hardware (or retirement altogether), and reduces the costly and time-consuming process of copying data”.
